How does a student qualify for P.A.L.S.?

PALS Screening and Placement Procedures

 

  1. Review NWEA test scores once the testing window has closed in the fall and spring. These scores will be used as an indicator as to which students need to be tested further. 

  2. Students scoring in the 95%ile or above in the mathematics or reading portions of the NWEA will be placed on a list to do some further testing. 

  3. Check with teachers to see if they have any students who are great thinkers, but are low achievers. They may also have some new-to-the-district students they feel need to be looked at. 

  4. E-mail to principals and teachers a list of prospective students to test prior to contacting parents to get permission to administer the KBIT. 

  5. Obtain permission to administer the KBIT from parents. 

  6. Notify teachers prior to coming and testing. (Fall)

  7. Administer KBIT. (Fall)

  8. Email teachers and administrators the test results once testing is completed. (Fall)

  9. Students who score in the 95%ile or higher in one or both portions of the KBIT will qualify for PALS. (Fall)

  10. Parents will be contacted by mail to share test results and whether their child has qualified for PALS or not. (Fall)

  11.         Copy of KBIT cover will be sent to each secretary to be placed in the CA-60. (Fall)

  12. Teachers receive a list of students who have been added to the program. (Fall)
